About Our Nonprofit Organization

Honduras is the second-poorest country in Central America with 50% of its population under the age of 18. Poverty, AIDS, teenage pregnancy, and other social problems have combined to create many orphaned, abandoned, and abused children throughout the country. Some of these children end up living on the streets, some are exploited, and even those children who are rescued from such dire situations often find themselves facing a lonely existence in a government-run institution.

From this sad reality, a vision was born to create The Hope of Jesus Children's Home, a family-like home where children will be safe, nurtured, given opportunities for their future, and learn about God's great love for them. Many dedicated Christians have collaborated to help turn this dream into a reality, including the Honduran Episcopal Church, Hope for His Children International, The South American Missionary Society (SAMS), and many churches and individuals from various denominations.

Our Leaders
SAMS missionaries Mike and Kim Miller are providing the leadership for the project. The Millers gained a deeper understanding of the suffering of Honduras' vulnerable children after volunteering at a children's home in Tegucigalpa in 1999. Today, they are active in reflecting Christ's character as a helper and defender of the fatherless, as they press forward with the construction and development of The Hope of Jesus Children's Home.

The Hope of Jesus Support Committee
In May 2009, we held a community meeting during which we explained the vision for The Hope of Jesus Children's Home and invited our neighbors to join us in support of this ministry. The reaction we received was overwhelming, and a 9-person volunteer support committee was formed on the spot. This committee has been incredibly involved and committed to helping us in everything from cleaning streets to requesting donations of materials from local businesses.

Many from this committee have offered to volunteer their labor to dig ditches and lay cement blocks. They've begun to dream with us about the day when The Hope of Jesus Children's Home can provide love and protection to the homeless and vulnerable children of their country. They see the need for this project every day, sometimes in our own community. Their support has been invaluable and is a continual encouragement to us as we seek to develop a project with and for the Honduran people.
